It is possible: transporting assembled cranes

Mobile cranes

Mobile cranes are frequently shipped in semi-assembled condition, however it is possible to transport completely assembled cranes, saving the terminals in the discharge port valuable operational time. By making use of the S- and ST Class vessels’ stern-fitted Ro-Ro ramps, rapid turnaround times can be achieved in the load- and discharge port. Rail-mounted cranes can be lifted onboard by the vessels’ 700mt-rated heavy-lift cranes. Roll Group is always searching for the right solution and able to answer any client request.

No challenge to transport fully erected cranes

STS cranes

Used cranes are always shipped fully erected and are super heavy. Our MC-Class have proved their worth during several voyages with STS cranes on board, both over long and short distances. Thanks to the combination of a complete flush deck, high ballast capacity and great seakeeping behaviour – in combination with our engineering expertise – makes the BigRoll vessels superbly suited for the transportation of these cranes. BigRoll Bering accomplished the transport of three STS cranes of 1350 tons each, from Port Said to Malaga. With the cranes’ jibs spanning almost 135 meters, overhang was inevitable. The crane extended about sixty meters at portside and another 30 meters on starboard side. But the use of vessels can also be useful at shorter distances. For the relocation of four cranes at a fully operational terminal, BigRoll made several trips around the terminal and discharged all cranes on the other side of the terminal by Ro-Ro operations.

ECO hoppers

ECO Hoppers efficiently handle a wide range of dry bulk cargoes. RollDock transported four hoppers in one go, with a weight of 128 metric tons each. They were lifted onboard by the vessel cranes. No less than 36 lashings per hopper were necessary to ensure an optimal sea fastening and safe transport. After discharge, the ECO hoppers doubled the throughput at the final destination port.
